To whom it may concern,

Through this letter, I will demonstrate what I learned, as well as the work roles I had.

I have recently finished the Information and Library Technologies intensive program at John Abbott College in Montreal. During the program, I learned how to use MARC coding and put them in BestMARC. I also learned how to use the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme and Sears subject headings. For one of the assignments in a course I took, I was in a group where we were given a Hollinger Box that had documents. With it, we created a finding aid, and put it in AtoM. I also was part of two projects where I helped create a poster for an event.

During my library stage at Selwyn House, I have catalogued new books using the Mandarin ILS - which I have enjoyed doing. I also checked books back in, created book displays on the library’s shelves, weeded out books, shelved books, reorganized books and magazines, and helped organize chairs as preparation for an online author visit. I also added plastic coverings to books as part of the processing of new books.

At the stage I did at the Canadian Jewish Archives, most of the work I did was to process a new collection that they have received. I went through the collection to count how many of each item there was and put it in their database with File Maker Pro 19 - I enjoyed the work of working with items in this manner. I also helped with a client’s request by finding the right document in the archive’s collection. I was also required to put multiple boxes onto a cart and move it, some of which were heavy.

I have experience with different programs and databases. I have experience with Microsoft Office. I have created Excel sheets with formulas, and used it to keep track of what was tested when I was a game tester. I used Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. With regards to databases, I used File Maker Pro at the Canadian Jewish Archives, and the Mandarin ILS at Selwyn House. As a game tester, I have used the JIRA database. I also learned how to create a basic website using HTML at John Abbott.

For the Information Sources and Services IV course that I took in my final semester, I worked with a fellow student to give a workshop on how to do a podcast.

Throughout the program at John Abbott, I was required to do research on topics, and use the databases that the college had. I also created an annotated bibliography in Information Sources and Services II on a topic of my choosing.

I am able to work long hours sitting on a computer, both when being a tester and when cataloguing books.

As a QA tester, I gained experience in data entry and use my attention to detail. When creating bugs, I would have to properly fill out the information on both the client’s JIRA and the internal Excel sheets we use, and ensure that the proper attachments have been attached. I was required to find the smaller bugs as well such as an object clipping into a wall. As a Sony compliance tester, there were guidelines that certain words and phrases need to follow. I would find the areas of the game that have these words, and make sure that there are no spelling errors and have the proper line breaks (when required).

At VMC, I would constantly be switching seats from project to project. I would be responsible for setting up the equipment that I will be using. I would be required to plug in the cables for the computer and console. I was also in the PC Compatibility department at VMC, which also includes putting in different video cards, RAM and hard drives into the correct PC tower.

While at Pole to Win, I was on a project where the team would create test cases. I took a certain section of the title, and I would be responsible for creating the test cases, and updating them when required.

There were projects at VMC where I would gather information, compile them into an email, and send it to the test lead who would then compile their data and send it to the client. This was for when I was working on a Sony Compliance project. I would grab a pie chart as well as a list from Excel we had that marked the test cases that were passed/failed/blocked/in progress, the list of what we worked on that day and what we will work on the following business day. There were times I would proofread a lead’s email prior to them sending the End of Day report to the client.

I enjoy working with people. Part of the tests I would do as a game tester would require multiplayer testing. I would always be more than willing to work with others to get them done. At the same time, if there are new testers, I would show them how testing is done, where to go to find the documents that they need, how to use JIRA when writing a bug, and help them with setting up their equipment. I also enjoy working independently. As a tester, I was also required to perform tests that deal with single player gameplay.

Below, you will find my education and experience.

I thank you for taking the time to review my application, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Aleksandar (Alex) Markovic
